finally had time to play the whole thing through.

i just finished a games course at uni, and i'm still in the zone, so forgive me if i'm getting a little in-depth for a preview.

learning curve was really nicely balanced, though the instuctions on the walls for solving individual puzzles were kind of annoying...more than once i'd be in a position to solve the puzzle, stop to read the sign (upside down, or on an angle, making it difficult to read), and then run out of juice for the warp boots. i think you might have more luck with a sign that just says 'jump here' or even just a flashing green arrow. after the first few levels, the player won't need them anymore.

death lacks weight. like, even compared to other platformers. it's just a frustration, rather than something we actually want to prevent happening...in mario we had that music and a drop off the screen, combined with a lives system. maybe a recorded level timer (no time limit) and a two second animation of sarah getting zapped or some kind of sound being played would help this. what kind of sound? something we don't want to hear, like a blackboard, or a dark organ note, or something. ("dark organ note" is not meant to be a fart joke)

in the larger levels, sarah seemed a little slow. the puzzles worked great, stretching the limit of those warp-boots, but moving around trying to figure them out was a pain.

would like to see more lazerbeam puzzles, and more of that 'power-drain-wall' thing. they were the most interesting elements for me.

Oh yeah, and more side-view levels - that was my favorite, but it was really short. O:

Victory! Although I'm not sure I beat level 10 as it was intended, but I should get bonus points for that.

It's possible to exploit some of the ramps in order to attach to walls that otherwise you can't; granted I never used that in an advantageous way, but it might be possible to 'cheat' on a level like that. Also, if you manage to stand on a door while it's opening, it will pull you through the level. /bugnagbug

Taken 1/2h for the whole preview, would probably have taken at least 1h if I didn't already knew 5 stages.

I love the new textures and the new lights effect gives very good results.
I see you've replaced the previous ice by oil.

Don't know why, but i don't like the new sound on your Bounce blocks. It seems... off.

I've meet a bug on the level 6 : the door has opened itself at the start of the level. Here's for a Screenshot I don't known why, I've tried to determine the action needed to do it, but sometimes it happen, sometimes not. Apparently, however, it appear every time when I go directly to level 6 without doing levels1-5 before.
If it can help, I'm on Firefox 3.6.3 Gecko With Unity Player 2.6.1.31223

I think I'm the only one who likes the step sound. Though I still want running as default!
(Also, I'd lock the controls on the 2.5D level - Sarah shouldn't run diagonally towards us when the camera tries to get a better look. Just one more thing for the to-do list.)

so glad that the camera problems aren't happening as much anymore :D

level 9 automatically lets me out for some reason, but other than that the game is fine. i'm still stuck on level 10, but as soon as i beat that i'll update again :D

From the preview the graphics have definitely improved :) but sadly the unity player isn't working on my computer? Hmm I'll have to try again later.

sometimes trying it in a different browser works, if that fails I'll be making downloadable versions of the preview for win and osx soon :)

Played trough 3 first levels :) See some fun there. Will return to see 4-5 later. It of course needs some polishing... Camera sometimes feels awkward even with mouse in tight places and I to be precise have no idea on how to make it more user friendly

Also what are your plans with graphics? I would have wished more particles and stuff :)

To my shame I haven't started trying unity still :( Heard some time ago that they user base grew to 30M which is small too :( Flash had 30M installs per day in 2008 and 18m today as far as I heard...

yeah, some people are reporting feeling a little 'claustraphobic' with the camera, and I dont think the closed off interior type levels are helping that.

graphics wise I plan to do much more, ESPECIALLY particles, I love me some particles I do :D

as for unity's popularity I dont care, if people want to play my games in the browser, people can get off their arses and get the plugin, what determines my choice is the tools and quality of game I can make, not the player penetration :aww:

Hehe I see :)
How much time you spend on it so far? Daily?

As for unity player. For my hobby stuff I am fine with it. But if it something where for some reasons(financial or game idea needs masses) I need then numbers there it is important for me. In my experience sadly non Flash game hardly can compete with flash games in that... There is at least 10x difference of how many users stay on page after getting to it depending on technology you use...
Well anyways I guess you are in more artistic then commercial position where how you make your game meters more then other things (money, audience, user segments(grannies?:D))

For me to be honest in what I do for fun tools are more important. But if I want to have more then fun with it then it is worth considering :(

but yeah, rarely a day goes by I dont do something in Unity :)

Sarah's Run is lots of fun. :)

It's almost on par with "N" - With a few more, harder levels (with moving deathtraps or what have you) it might be even more fun. I like how you keep it simple, though. And force perspective in one of the levels. Nice.

lol, I dont think it's been compared to N before but I think the play style fits fairly well actually... and I was thinking of having death tracking lasers and homing missles too... :paranoid:

Hahah awesome!
I love how you control the learning pace, through small things like introducing a double jump in level 1 and placing the level 2 on a platform so you cannot get to it without a double jump.
The walking sound is a bit irritating, but all in all, it's a very fun game!
I will definitely give it a second look.

thanks :D

and yeah, the footstep sounds are one of the number one complaints, they will definitely change, in fact I'm looking forward to it as I'm not sure quite how I'll make it have different sounds for different surfaces yet, should be fun :D
