so Unity, the game engine I do most of my work in now, has an open beta with the option for flash export. that's pretty cool, and means I can upload most of my free games here in some way again, and I can also make a flash model viewer for uploading 3D models right to dA, complete with animations, textures etc.

here an early flash test thingy, if it runs slow or not at all update flash, and your graphics driver.

currently, deviantArt goes full retard when I try and upload this flash stuff to dA, maybe it doesn't like flash11 content right now and needs fixing. don't know where to report it though, who's the flash gallery moderator these days?

oh, in other news, my first finished commercial game has been released! you can totally try the demo and get it on my site :)

anyhoo, it's been a while. how have you guys been? I've mostly been making games :B

it comes in both free and pro (£15/$25) flavours, and if you do much texturing work, it can probably save you a lot of time! :D

you can get it here:

couple of things I've textured using it:…

(obviously these are limited by my own painting skill, but you can project photos or whatever you want. the texture quality is only limited by pixel resolution :) )

if you use it I'd love to know how you get on, and I'd especially love to see what you make with it! :la:

Buy my game!

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 17, 2010, 8:59 AM
My witch game is for sale whilst I'm working on it, when I add stuff to the game I'll be adding to the price so if you want to buy it at its cheapest, then the sooner the better :)

Was ludum dare this weekend... which means...

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 22, 2010, 7:33 PM

also also, to those of you in the game-art group wondering why I'm not running any competitions, I'm stopping that for now, and there will be weekend speed challenges coming soon, much like there was during dA's birthday :)

also also also, anyone hiring? I need me a job.

Guess who wrote the cover article for Develop magazine this month?

not sure what they mean by 'took on and won' or why they need to emphasize how I have boobs, but whatever, it's still pretty damn cool :D

you can read it online hyar (page 18-19):…

in other news, I can make gifs of my games these days!

in other other news, make sure to check out this month's game-art competition,…
there's a week and a half left to enter, be the first to submit!

in other other other news, this is a really cool thing if you like game jams:…

in other other other other news, I spoke (rather craply) at the World of Love conference in London last month, I hear there will be a video uploaded at some point, so when it's online I shall link y'all :D

A couple of sites to know about

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 19, 2010, 11:22 PM
I said to a few people who came to me asking for flash help there was a website going up that would be useful to them but it was in private beta, so I would link them when it was open... well it's open!

Flash Game Dojo is a site pretty focussed on programming flash games with flashpunk and flixel, and the site is put together by the creators of these engines, and is contributed to them by anyone (there are already 90 articles on the wiki) if you are looking to get started in flash programming, you could do so much worse ;)

and another site that went up recently;

IndieDB is pretty much ModDB for indie games, keep track of developers and the games they make. and the cool thing is the site is really just a filter for indie stuff on ModDB, so if you have an account on ModDB, its the same account on IndieDB.
anyhoo, I always loved ModDB, but as someone who was not a modder and not sure of whether my projects were acceptable I never signed up, but now there is an indie specific front end I'm making full use of the site and liking it a lot; here's my page and here's the page for Sarah's Run

New Sarah's Run preview is live!

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 15, 2010, 1:09 AM

That's 5 updated levels, and 5 new levels. go play it here:

please let me know what you think of it :)

also, if you want to stay informed about the big announcements, such as when pre-orders will be available, make sure to sign up to the mailing list…

Journal Entry: Tue May 11, 2010, 3:24 AM…
You need a gameplad to play with it really, but if enough people are wanting decent keyboard control I can do that :)

and in other news I came 3rd place overall last ludum dare with a fishing adventure, woo!

also I'm posting reasonably frequently to the sarah's run devblog if you're interested:…

also also mini ludum dare this weekend, if you're a game dav make sure you're attending, it looks like it will be a fun one :D

Sarah's run has a development blog now...

Journal Entry: Tue May 4, 2010, 1:26 PM

...just in case anyone is interested; [linky]

(latest playable build there too :aww:)

Ludum Dare

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 25, 2010, 2:36 PM
I made a game this weekend :B

heres the link:…

wanted to do more (and I still have time left to do it) but I'm waay too tired, and sleep is most important to me :aww:

I may make a fixed up version sometime with more pretty, and more levels but for now I'm kind of sick of working on it and I'd much rather spend my time working on Sarahs run.

It's that time of the month again...

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 21, 2010, 1:37 AM

you know, that awesome time when I make a game in a weekend :D

play it here:…

Hello there (updated)

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 17, 2010, 8:26 PM
sorry I've been inactive of late, but I have a good excuse, I was making games!

oh go on then, I'm letting everyone else play this version so why not you guys too <3…
well, as yet only one game is *done* and that is my Gamma4 entry, so you cant play it yet, and I want to add more to it before I release it online, so even when gamma time comes, you prolly wont be able to play it then either. :paranoid:

but there *are* games, being made, on computer and stuff! :D

updating: wanna know just *what* game i'm working on? here's a hint:…

Flashers Group, Gender-Benders group

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 8, 2009, 1:33 AM
so flashers is finally groupified! go join if you flash!

also I got an unexpected invite to a fresh group Gender-Benders which "is for the support of transsexuals, transgendered, cross-dressers, inter-sexed, bi-gendered, androgynous, and anyone else between the lines of the social construct of gender."

I know a few of my watchers fit that (actually about 1/4 of my notes are from other transfolk/questioning/curious people) so even though it seems empty right now this group might be another place to go to :) (though you are always free to talk to me of course ;))

also, heres another picture:

OH! and dont forget its ludum dare this weekend everyone, clear some time to make a game! :D

Game-Art group

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 4, 2009, 11:26 AM

You heard right, you make art for games? SIGN UP!
:icongame-art: Game-Art

I'm officially a 'contributor' I'll be uploading more art from my games so I can actually 'contribute' plus I've been flexing my 3D lately as well as my drawing, once I get my current (and typically secret) project done I'll be submitting models as I make them for games, plus I'll be doing some just for fun and practice anyway and I'll release them as resources.

also, for anyone who was looking forward to reading my novel (yes, the imaginary folks) I'm sorry I havent posted it, when listing all the illustrations I wanted to make, I counted over a hundred, that will take a long, long time to draw between other, significantly more important projects. so for now if you really really want to read it (who are you talking to sophie, no one wants to read it ) then its online in per-chapter blog form at…

also, 123 chapters, sweeeet 8-)

goodness this big wall of text is going to be no fun on my page... I'll put up a picture:

dont ask, I wasn't even going to show you guys anything before it was done. :paranoid:

Google wave invites

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 10, 2009, 6:53 AM

I've just been given an extra 28 to hand out, I dont have that many friends, so I'm handing them out on a first-come, first-served basis :D

I need an email address for the invite so the first folks to supply me with that get the invites :)

if you don't know what google wave is, its pretty much made to replace email. but really a hybrid of instant messaging, forums, email and wikis. it's especially good for collabing on documants :aww:

The Game

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 8, 2009, 2:37 PM
I lost, and I'm a sore loser so I'm taking you down with me.

sucks to be you. =p

Rule 63, also NaNoWriMo and DDness

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 5, 2009, 2:53 AM
To those of you aware of the rules of the internet; yes, this is a journal about gender-bending! :D

as most of you prolly know, I'm pretty gender-bent myself and a huge amount of the manga and comics I read are gender-bending related.

but recently one manga (and it's anime too) have been too totally awesome not to talk about! its an action/school romance type affair called 'Kampfer' and heres how I rank my fave's in the genre:

3rd place: Cheeky Angel (tenshi no konomaiki)
character art is horrific, its all really chessy, but still fun :)

2nd place: Ranma 1/2
still really cool even though its oooolllld (crap the manga is as old as me! :faint:) but it is pretty much the original. problem though is it was the same few storylines repeated over and over it seemed

1st Place: Kampfer
really awesome art, really awesome concept, really awesome characters and would have won even if it didnt have cool talking plushies with their guts hanging out.

OH MY GOD! (I hear you yell if you are into this kind of thing) HOW COULD YOU PUT RANMA 2ND!
well, kampfer is that awesome.

expect lots (and lots) of Natsuru fanart in the future

anyhoo, now I've got my 'freaky fangirl' stuff clear I just thought I should mention in my journal someplace I've been working on a NaNoWriMo entry this year (to write a 50,000 word novel during november) and I'm currently a little over double my target wordcount for this part of the month, which is pretty cool :D

as for the story, the basic deal is there are these 26 'super' warriors and when there is only one left standing they will be given the power to reshape the universe as they see fit.

it's going pretty well and I'm really happy with how the story itself is coming, if you want to follow my progress you can check out new chapters and illustrations on my crappy art blog
and if you are writing yourself this month why not add me as a writing buddy!… we shall race to 50k!

also big hello and thanks to all new watchers and folks who favved after :skincrawl: by SophieHoulden got a DD (omg I have alot of DDs :faint:)

Unity is free now guys

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 28, 2009, 3:18 PM

I'm not even kidding guys, the engine I use to make games like BOXGAME? its free.

I hear you moan - "oh but sophie, it wont have all the features and stuf-"
"WRONG" - I cut you off like the impatient bitch I am - "It has more features free than it had when it cost money!"

download it here:

if you are still reading this and are not downloading unity RIGHT NOW, you are a total asshole and you don't realise how big news this is, imagine if adobe flash could do better-than-xbox/PS2 3D graphics and then adobe said "hey you can have it free, cause we like you"

its like that but better!

here's some other news; adobe doesent like you, flash isnt going to be free, the best free alternative to unity is gamemaker... (ever tried gamemaker? then you know why unity kicks ass)

yes I'm a little miffed I bought unity so long ago I cant get a refund, but I'm glad my contribution helped take Unity technologies to get to the point where this awesome tool is free. so that is consolation enough ^_^

I made it!

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 17, 2009, 10:53 AM

Check out the tiny awesomeness!

I got much more pics and info on my new blog:…

If anyone is curious as to why I have 2 blogs now, 1 is for classy and polished stuff, the other is for rough, messy, fun and perverted stuff.

oh and I wanted to submit this to dA but the Artisan Crafts gallery is having a bit of a refit at the moment (which is cool) so I'll submit later :aww:
