deviantViewer v.1 by SophieHoulden deviantViewer v.1 by SophieHoulden
to see it in action go to [link]

edit: its a flash file in a zip so you gotta hit download.

Description
this is an flash image viewer allowing for things like zooming out and panning and the like, as I see a lot of time someone posts a deviation and links to close ups seperately (as the high res image usually takes up loads of space)

but with this, you can set it up so your image is displayed the size you want it, and you can let people zoom in to see the details.

Things yet to be added:
Help files/tutorials

Dsiclaimers/credit etc:
Sunflower image is stock by ~zinux [link]
you can use this flash anywhere you want, mod it anyhow you want, but give me credit please okies :)

Temporary Help section:
first of all you need flash 8 to use this (I'll make an mx2004 version later ok =p)
to get started, open the file and look in the library, 'theImage' movie clip is the one you want to put your image, but make sure it is positioned so the top left of your image is at co-ordinates of 0,0.

you can then go back to the main timeline and alter the actions in the first frame of the code layer to suit you.

Apologies for this being confusing but I will be making a help file which is more aimed at people who arent so hot at flash in time, I just want to find out if its usable or not first, so you guys who can figure it out let me know ok ;)

One question though: why does mouse scroll thingy work in IE and not in Firefox? (ive set the height and width of movie to 100%)

not sure, I've recompiled this and it works ine in FF3, though I have noticed that in my recent AS3 stuff, scroll wheel actions scroll the page even when the mouse is over the flash, I think its a plugin issue, can always email adobe and ask I guess?

if I set my document width (in publish settings) in pixels, and it is small enough so that a vertical scrollbar does not appear in firefox, it would work just fine.... but it wouldn't work if i set the document width/height to 100%

Zooming and panning is really a nice concept that can be applied to images in Flash. I've used this idea of yours for my website [link] (used just the concept, not your code)

just wanted to say thanks for your awesome idea :D

keep up the good work

I apologize for this comment, but I haven't the time to look at the other comments at the moment to see if I'm repeating.

I love the idea of the flash viewer, Though it would be nice if there was a built in way for the image to be reset to its original display size!

I'll be seeing about trying to put it to good use~ Soon as I get back on the computer... sometime after I get Flash CS3 working and start playing with the help files~

there is, on the bottom bar the first button resets the size and the second one sets it to 100% :)

Grrr your so good! I was just making a zooming flash viewer, but yours looks sooo much better. I wonders hows yous detects mouse scrolls, you made it work so well too (wonders middle & right click too). *goes and reads your amazing coding*

A version that loaded an xml file to grab all the images would be great. That way the base size is much smaller. However, when you scale a loaded image it gets pixelated (cause there's no way to check the "allow smoothing" box) but what you can do is draw the MC onto a bitmapdata then attach the bitmap data to a mc to circumvent this.

That's brilliant. If they implement this it will be more convenient on the viewer and possibly cut down on art theft. I mean if they completely overhauled the site and redesigned it to work with something like this it'd be bustafruit kinda swell.

Two questions however-
How would we credit you for this?
Who made that super sexy preloader?

sadly it wont stop the image rippers, still the best thing to fight them is a good solid watermark.

the screengrab can still get the image :(

I wanted to see this working rather than downloading the FLA. Any chance you can include an EXE or SWF in the download?

sort of, only this is for the artist themselves, they put the image in the flash file and then anyone can take advantage of it, not just firefox+greasemonkey people.

check out the link to the example to see what I mean :)
