so this is the basic proof of concept I did a while back for my time travel game:

normal mode:
arrow keys: move and jump
space bar: enter time travel mode

time travel mode:
left: reverse time
right: advance time
up: increase time travel speed
down: decrease time travel speed
also you can drag the bar with the mouse

I have endless fun making patterns jumping around with myself.
I do have a more updated enine with buttons and doors where you have to time travel to get through, but the doors are a little buggy, and I'm not certain I even want my finished game to be in flash, so this is prolly in the same category of 'in my own time' development viviscape is ;)

I was originally holding back on showing anyone this, but now everyone and their dog is making a time travel game, so whatever =p

[link] cursor*10 is simple but really good, the only other one I can think of right now would be braid for xbox360. oh, also there is knight time [link]

though in knight time its a while before you get to the time travel parts :)

Space bar isn't working for the into time-travel thing. And is it possible to get up past the tallest platform?

Note to all:

Do not time travel to the end of all time, it's just silly.

Armagedon occurs in ten minutes. Don't let 10 minutes pass without going back or the world will end and crash the game.

My little man is still up there frozen at the end of time, with no more time left to use to go back in time...

=)

every time instance (in this case 30 times a second) I store the players position and frame into an array with the time it was recorded, then if that time ever comes round again, a copy of the player is made using that information :)

Some kind of portal effect would be cool for your previous-self disappearing. I had a go at something like this a while back [link] , but I like the way yours can have multiple time-selfs. The possibilities are endless :p

Reminds me of the Smiths in the Matrix, when there were about 8 of me running forth.

...And reminded me of a swarm of locusts when there were about 50.

Very interesting. You might want to know that you can go over the allotted 10 minutes if you just keep hitting the space bar when the time runs out.

AHHHHH! That took me a while to work out lol

I think to make more "user friendly"when you first start to adust the time there should be a big portal thingy or something (your sucked into) so that the "twin keeps on disappearing" is more evident that it is only because at that point you (/"the twin") travelled in time (thus "disappearing").

But very very awesome in my opinion :+fav:

Im interested to know how you did this? My guess would be that at each frame you record the characters x and y values and what "state" the character is in. then when the time is adjusted - you move MCs to replicated those variables on each frame? Am I close? =/ =/

BULL! This can't predict where I'll go in the future! Tis not time travel!!

due to temporal perception, you can travel into the future, but cannot percieve what you do there, partly bacause of how light particles travel between instances on chronic distortion, partly because the game is in flash and a game that predicts what you will be doing in the future takes more than either myself or flash can handle =p

Awwwe.. I thought you were going to go in this direction:
That the game of the future is dictating my present actions, so it is impossible to see the future since self-awareness would destroy the loop. :lmao:
But well played! Plus addicting little engine you got there! I'd love to see a game where you have to protect people from .. getting killed or something by seeing what happens, then reversing time in attempt to prevent the accident. :D

Awesome idea. Love the concept, and keep racing many version of myself.

I would love to see a game using this concept, and have things like the first person has to hold up a rock and then goes back in time while the future self can crawl under and press a button.

Things like that would be sweet.
